Magpie

Origin:
Magpie was originally inspired by the “humans are space orcs” Tumblr posts, I loved reading all those concepts and started imagining the different interactions humans would have with aliens. For his universe, the aliens are similar to humans in the way they act. They are selfish and violent, the rich steal and the poor steal back.

Backstory:
Magpie did not end up away from Earth willingly, he was taken as a “sovereign” and was sold to scientists who studied new species, they wanted to find out how humans worked and what they needed to survive before they made contact. He was cut open while being unable to fight back due to whatever alien drug they gave him. He managed to escape them but not long after he was caught again and due to his injuries he was sold as damaged goods. The crew that found him at the market managed to convince their captain to take him onboard, as they had other crew members that had been in similar situations. Long story short he did not like them, he would fight and scream and try to run as often as he could. He was scared, angry and couldn't understand anything they were saying. Eventually he calmed down, once he could understand their language and they explained his situation he stopped trying to escape. They tried to take him back to earth but (due to time being funny when your that far away in space) earth was no longer habitable and he was all alone. They decided to properly take him in then, an old storage cupboard was turned into his room and he began helping them with their deliveries.

The crew:
They found an old cargo ship that was beaten up and, more importantly, was cheap. Super cheap. They patched up what they could and rebuilt the rest, now it's their main mode of transportation and they use it to ship small loads of cargo for extra cash. One of the members, fisher, is in a similar situation to Magpie. Her planet was also destroyed but her species managed to get off beforehand so occasionally she will see another like her and they get all happy and sad about being reminded that they're not the last ones but they can't go home. They have a creature kept on board, just referred to as the mimic, it can be what it wants when it wants. To properly “mimic” someone it needs to form a connection with them, almost like a possession, this will allow it to copy both their body and mind. Typically they try keep it away from everyone but in specific situations it can be useful. When Magpie first came on board they had no idea what he needed, when the mimic got him it could tell them that as a human he needed H20, calories, fats, proteins ect so they were able to find the right food/drinks to keep him alive. Magpie hates this thing, he doesn't think it's natural and has no idea that the mimic had connected with him before, as it did that when he passed out. He does eventually find out though, when he sees himself walking around and freaks tf out.
